One thing that people should know about intermittent fasting (IF) is that it is not a form of diet; rather it is an eating pattern where you actually schedule your meals. It has so many health benefits, including:

  • Slowed aging
  • Better insulin sensitivity
  • Reduced oxidative stress
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved pancreatic function
  • Better stress and disease resistance

If you have been trying to lose weight for a long time and yet you don’t see any positive results with your efforts, it may be time for you to try IF. One of the reasons why you are currently struggling with your weight is because of the processed food that you eat. However, many people tend to go into feast mode where they will not and cannot stop eating.

What happens when you eat several meals a day is that your body will consider sugar as the chief fuel for regulating enzymes that are responsible for burning and using fat. When you fast, however, you allow your body to be refreshed, so that your metabolism kicks into high gear and you get to burning fat, which is naturally the primary fuel to remove the unwanted fat in the body.

Exercising on an Empty Stomach

Intermittent fasting has been controversial throughout the years because it encourages people to work out without food in their bellies. But if you think about it, our leaner ancestors performed hunting or other rigorous activities on an empty stomach. If you have practiced eating first before you go on a workout routine, it is time to change that. Research has confirmed that exercising without eating first will give you more benefits, including burning more fat easily. In fact, it is most recommended by experts to exercise after waking up before you grab anything for breakfast.

Is It Possible to Be Lean and Have Muscle Mass with IF?

There are a few methods for intermittent fasting and one of them allows you to gain muscle mass while you become leaner. A good technique is to restrict your eating period from 12 noon to eight in the evening. Follow this with a fasting period where you do not eat for 16 hours. One reason why this is effective is because you don’t have to force yourself to have breakfast in case you wake up late. Also, you stop eating and just go to sleep at eight instead of giving in to snacking at night.
