Most, if not all, of us are used to commercial shampoos and conditioners. But the “No Poo” experiment aims to change this by showing consumers that it is actually much better to go natural. Instead of commercial hair products, the experiment involves the use of baking soda and apple cider vinegar (ACV).
What’s the No Poo Experiment?
The No Poo experiment is actually a challenge not to use shampoos and conditioners for a period of six months. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: Add a tablespoon of baking soda in 500 ml cup of water. If you have longer hair, add one more tablespoon.
Step 2: Stir the solution until you see the baking soda is completely dissolved.
Step 3: Now, in a separate cup of water (500 ml), add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Use two tablespoons if you have long hair.
Step 4: While in the shower, wet your hair thoroughly.
Step 5: Apply the first solution with the baking soda to your hair. Massage gently before you rinse you hair.
Step 6: Pour the second solution and rinse after one minute.
Does It Work?
According to the girl who did the experiment, the results weren’t immediate. She also noted that the smell from the vinegar was only strong for a few minutes. After rinsing her hair, it smelled normal, which is good news for those who want to try the experiment as well. However, she did notice some changes after two weeks.
She intended to do the challenge for a month only. However, the results surprised her, so she continued for another few months. Within six months, she observed that her hair is silkier, smoother, and even more manageable. Before that, she had limp and oily hair. After the No Poo experiment, she noticed that her hair looks livelier and feels much healthier than before.
Why Did the Experiment Provide Positive Results?
Commercial hair products may smell nice and may work for some time, but continuous use could lead to dry hair. This is because they remove the natural oils in the hair, which leads to an overexcited scalp. In return, the scalp produces more oils, which is actually not helpful for your hair.
Instead of using shampoos and conditioners, try the six-month No Poo experiment. It is very inexpensive – baking soda and apple cider vinegar are much, much cheaper than shampoos and conditioners. Plus, you are doing the environment a favor by not throwing away plastic bottles of those commercial hair products. Do the challenge and see the amazing results for yourself.
