The study had more than 40,000 men and 150,000 women. They all drank coffee and it was later discovered that coffee is not just a stimulant, but actually has effects that are comparable to mild antidepressants.
The results were published in the World Journal of Biological Psychology, but the researchers were still unsure how coffee makes people happy. Since coffee is a stimulant and can provide the same effects as some antidepressants, the study concluded that coffee can lower suicide risk in a person. Although there is not much explanation, drinking coffee and other beverages with caffeine as well as eating caffeinated foods can be rewarding.
